Take of the Week:
Hopefully by now TWiPRT readers know about Carly’s insights. She’s an absolute must-read, must-follow in our industry. I simply love her anecdote with Jason Hiner about what makes good PR people stand out:

Most pitches fail because they’re written from the inside out. The client has something they want to say, and the pitch is built around saying it as loudly as possible.

But reality is, journalists only care about what your client has to say if it’s something their readers will actually want to read.”

Taking a step back, this is just a poignant take on so many levels and should be bookmarked for future reference. I am sure many of us have heard execs and clients say “we want to be in___” (fill in the blank for said media outlet). Carly’s take completely turns this on its head, it’s not that a company should want to be in an outlet - it’s why should that outlet’s readers care about what that company has to say.

Excellent take as always, Carly.

The Rest of the Takes:
Emerging/creator media
- Love Kelsey’s take on newsletters, with a key point - “The question isn't, "How many subscribers do they have?" It's, "Do they have the audience my client wants to reach?"

PR Misc.
- Orianna with a great reminder on why PR is not advertising and the ground rules that go along with this
- How journalists find sources on social media, a great take from Dustin
- As always, Danny wrote a thoughtful post about a PR pro’s career trajectory

That’s it for this week’s takes, thanks for reading.
