Sponsored Take of the Week:
ThisWeekinPRTakes has partnered with two PR powerhouses - Meredith & The Media AND Gini Dietrich, founder and CEO of Spin Sucks and PESO Model® for this week’s Take of the Week and the first-ever sponsored one. Personally, I am a long time Gini/Spin Sucks follower, and their PESO model. It’s hard to be in PR and Comms and have not heard about them at all.

Gini wrote a great take about why now is the right time for her PESO model, and it’s a real doozy. I highly recommend TWiPRT readers dive in for some real, actionable advice like:

A practical way to think about it is that if you can’t explain your story clearly on your own site, no journalist should have to do it for you, and an AI system definitely won’t. They’ll simply pull from someone who made it easier.

So what does this mean for you? Before you pitch a single story or idea, create one owned media asset that’s quotable and specific.

Start with one of these:

  • A 600–900 word explainer that answers “What is it, why now, and what’s different?”

  • A FAQ that addresses the top 8–10 questions your audience keeps asking

  • A short case study with one measurable outcome and how you got it

  • A POV article with one clear claim and the evidence to support it

Build that first. Then let everything else (shared, paid, earned) do its job.

Resource of the Week:
This isn’t quite a resource per se, but if you’re in Tech PR then you know that Rachel Curry is a great writer. You may not have known that she’s available for consulting to help PR efforts though!

Chuckle of the Week:
Brandon is probably atop the list for most CotW’s, this one about writing a press release in 24 hours certainly got a chuckle out of me.

The Rest of the Takes:
Media relations
- The NY Times’ Mike Isaac and Sheera Frenkel conducted a Q&A about how they work, no comment and getting it right.
- Evan wrote about why being called a “flack” pushed him to be better (h/t to Dustin Siggins for this one!).
- I can’t say I’ve ever heard of this, but Jill wrote about the thoughtful gesture of comping Uber rides for a reporter.
- 100% yes to this take from Megan. Every spokesperson should have a 20 second, one liner about their company that is jargon free, and easy to understand.
- Leila put together a great take on PR’s biggest problem, it comes down to who is pitching.

PR Misc.
- If you’re thinking about breaking up with your PR firm, you should read this and also think about hitting up Danny.
- “If it clicks, it sticks” is true, but also something to be mindful of when building credibility according to Dustin.
- Simon points out that March does in fact seem like a heavy month, and at times we’re better off advising stakeholders to wait on an announcement unless we’re truly adding to the narrative.

That’s it for this week’s takes, thanks for reading.
