This Week in PR Takes - Week 41

Week 41

Quick programming note…I will not be publishing this during the week of Thanksgiving.

Take of the Week:
I decided to do something a little different for this week’s Take of the Week. As I reflect on the past year and the joy this newsletter has brought me, I thought I would write a take that is in line with the giving season.

Stepping out of my comfort zone, I’m going to talk about myself. It has been a rough two years for me professionally. I was RIF’ed once and another full time gig at an agency did not work out. These are firsts for me, and I don’t think I’m the only one in the industry that has been hit like this.

Over the year I have doubled down on freelance/consulting and have found an equally tremendous amount of joy in that work as I have in this newsletter. As I reflect, I am thankful to all of the clients I have had this year, both on a retained and project basis, for all of my friends and colleagues (new and old) that have helped me, and for this community for seeing the value in what I am trying to provide each week.

If there is one thing that I have learned over the past two years, it’s the value of a simple check in. We are amidst an incredibly challenging job market, and I can say firsthand that it meant the world to me when someone would send a text or LinkedIn message asking how I was holding up. It helped me feel just a little bit less isolated to know that “someone” out there had my back. In turn, I try to practice what I preach and will often pay it forward with those that may be struggling professionally.

So, instead of doing a round of takes this week, I’m going to ask this community to take the small amount of time it takes to read this newsletter and check in on someone. It could be someone that was recently been laid off, someone searching for a job or someone just having a tough time.

The least we can all do is send a “Hey, how are you doing” text to someone who is struggling, it’ll make their day. And that’s my PR Take of the Week as we head into Thanksgiving.

As always, thank you for reading.
