This Week in PR Takes - Week 38

Week 38

Take of the Week:
Most readers will be able to attest by now that I love movie references. I love that Andrew Nusca squeezed in a Christmas Vacation reference in today’s newsletter, and I love when I read a take that is right on par with a movie reference.

That’s where Andrew Blotky’s take comes in - be nice; and I couldn’t help but think about “Road House” when I read it. He’s spot on that we should start from a position of collaboration and not confrontation; not only is it more pleasant to be around, but it creates better results in the end. I’d also take it a step further given the time of year and the headlines. Tensions and anxiety are high as thousands upon thousands are getting laid off, and it’s easy to let that pressure create confrontation. As a community, we should try our best to rise above and be nice given all that is happening. It’s the least we can do.

Resource of the Week:
Admittedly, affiliate marketing is one of my blind spots when it comes to Communications. I wanted to pass along a great Substack via Meredith Klein’s newsletter all about affiliate marketing. I smashed the subscribe button on Sarah Karger’s Affiliate for Publicists newsletter and recommend y’all do too.

Bonus Resource:
Parry dropped a free AEO News Release Template, it’s worth a download for sure.

A message from Reportable:
“This feels too easy…the other wire services have so many hoops to jump through.” This is an actual quote from a TWiPRT community member who tried Reportable this week. They deliver the same top tier visibility as the well-known services, but for a much more reasonable rate.

Reportable has extended an offer to the TWiPRT community for their premium wire distribution and social media boosting (a $250 value) for a total of $500 to distribute a press release. It's ideal for startups, small businesses, or anyone looking to maximize their press release spend on a budget.

I know that more calls and meetings is the last thing anyone needs, but if you schedule a 15 minute call with Reportable’s Karen Reynolds using this link, you can send out releases with the same LLM reach - but for a fraction of the cost.

The Rest of the Takes:
PR Misc.
- In the spirit of the Take of the Week, Jess posted equally compelling thoughts that can best be summed with this, “So, if you’re in a position of power, make it a good one. Don’t demand A+ work and create D- conditions.”
-Cyrine with a take on why awards help future proof your PR program and your business
-The always on-point Carly had a great take on the quiet periods in between announcements
- Why is communications so hard? Dave dove into this question with some excellent insight.

PR / Comms Measurement:
- We often think about measuring communications in terms of media coverage, but what about Internal comms? Clare recently sat down with Workvivo’s Principal People Scientist to explore this exact question.
- Dustin published a post on how PR/Comms can improve the bottom line

PR and AI:
- This new world of PR and AI has brought back the press release and earned media, but Steph dives into what it means for relationships with journalists.
- Dave published a handful of tips to help brands influence how they show up in LLMs

That’s it for this week’s takes, thanks for reading.
