This Week in PR Takes - Week 33

Week 33

Most of the TWiPRT community knows by now that one of my main goals is to strive for brief and concise material in the newsletters. In that spirit, we have such great Resources of the Week that we’re going to forego a Take of the Week.

Each of the Resources of the Week show a signal that reporters are seeking to educate PR people how to best work with them. Whether you’re a journalist, creator or communications professional, please don’t forget to send any and all helpful material my way so that we can all learn from one another.

Resources of the Week:
By now, those in the B2B technology community should know about Keith Shaw’s DEMO series on CIO.com. Over the years other media outlets have gone away with product reviews, yet Keith has found a fantastic balance between review and discussion of B2B tech products.

As you may imagine, he is inundated with pitches from Tech PR people, and asked that his recent post be included in TWiPRT. Please read, bookmark and share this roadmap for how to pitch guests on his podcast. It’s a must-read.

Bonus Resource of the Week:
As communicators, we hear a lot about how LinkedIn is the go-to forum for thought leadership. Let’s pull the thread on this thought, and take it a step further. We should be thinking about LinkedIn as a media outlet, too. With her permission, Tanya Dua sent along this snippet:

One of the best ways of getting the bang for your buck on LinkedIn is having an exec on hand as part of your media strategy share a timely, behind-the-scenes POV on news from their personal LinkedIn profile in as timely a manner as possible. That way, we can activate many of the levers we have that other publications don't.

She wanted all PR pros to know how to use LinkedIn to break news and recommends we all read this: https://lnkd.in/newsonlinkedin.

Tanya also sent their form for those that want to pitch LinkedIn’s editorial team: https://airtable.com/appWJL8ljn8P0GijN/pagAiElsGPMpO3Cie/form

Personally, I’ve bookmarked both of those to have on hand when appropriate news comes up, and highly recommend y’all do too (and spread the word to others).

Lastly, I caught that the WSJ’s James Rundle put together a pitch guide, which I highly recommend reading as well.

The Rest of the Takes:
AI and PR
- Shannon on how many citations in AI come from PR, and what it means.
- Gab with the one AI prompt we need as PR pros.
PR Misc.
- I love Stephanie’s question about trusting a CCO if they’ve never been in comms. It reminds me of a question a professor once asked, if you need to be a great player to be a great coach. I agree with her and think in comms the answer is you at least have to have played the game and have some functional experience.
- Coffee, espresso and PR from Dustin; I’ll say no more and let you read.
Media Relations
- Cate with some reminders about how to best share news.

That’s it for this week’s takes, thanks for reading.
