This Week in PR Takes - Week 31
Week 31
Take of the Week:
I am a huge proponent of trade publications when it comes to building out a media relations strategy, and I think Scott hit the nail right on the head with his take around their importance. Sure, we all want to land our clients and companies in the big shiny mastheads, but the real success and impact is almost always in the trades. Those are the outlets that reach the audiences who care deeply about the latest and greatest news in a given industry, and are also the ones that are likely to click through to a company website to learn more.
The Resource of the Week:
Carly and her team at Notably have been putting out some amazing material over the past few months (reminder to read their pitch guide here). She and Meredith partnered up for another awesome content-drop to help answer the question around following up with journalists.
It’s a must read and absolutely our resource of the week; thank you Carly and Meredith for publishing it.
The Rest of the Takes:
AI and PR
- There have been several notable takes about the resurgence of PR due to AI, and Lisa just dropped another great one that dives into how press releases, analyst relations and Reddit help.
- Will AI help or hurt creativity? Dustin dives in with the answer, and also a take about how laziness plays into it all.
Media Relations
- We have all read or said something to the effect of media relations is a marathon and not a sprint, but Adam goes deeper into why this is true, but also into the full picture.
- Tiffany wrote about how journalists don’t cover companies because of relationships, they cover because of story alignment and audience.
Agencies
- For the first time, I am going to give a second nod to a community member in the same newsletter. Carly already dropped a great resource, but her take on why agencies should focus less on strategy decks and more on headlines is another must-read.
PR Misc.
- Jeremy wrote about why PR and Comms today is akin to, “A rocking horse moves a lot…but it doesn’t actually go anywhere.”
-Sakshi published some thoughts on why PR is not the glamorous job that others might think it is.
As always, thank you for reading.
