This Week in PR Takes - Week 28

Week 28

Happy Friday everyone!

I want to take a moment to thank Clare Sayas before we jump into the past week’s takes. She pens a fantastic newsletter called “The Boilerplate” that I highly recommend TWiPRT readers check out, each article is Q&A with industry experts. This past week, she published a Q&A with yours truly and I would really appreciate if y’all gave this a read and a share:

Again, thank you Clare for taking the time and for asking such great questions!

A quick housekeeping note - I am going on vacation next week and will not be publishing a newsletter, but I’ll be back just in time for the pre-Labor Day rush.

Resource of the Week:
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have found Meredith Klein’s Substack, “Meredith and the Media” to be an incredibly useful resource with deep dive Q&A’s into reporters backgrounds and preferences. It’s a must read/subscribe!

The Rest of the Takes:
AI
- Alex Wilhelm wrote about the return of the press release in Cautious Optimism, furthering the idea that this communications tool is making a comeback
- Not quite an AI take, but it’s AI-centric and certainly something we should all read. Grace found the trade publications that LLMs are picking up
- What it means that LLMs are pulling from earned media more than anywhere else, from Steve

Media
- I am in 100% agreement with Sarah on why, no matter how experienced you are, or where you sit in an organization, PR execs should always be pitching
- Shannon reminds us that a reporter’s job is not to promote a company
- Dustin with a similar take, but more in the context of how relationships don’t mean coverage
- Stop spraying and praying. That’s it, that’s Ayelet’s take
- Lisa on some careless pitching (especially since she left CNET more than a year ago)

Industry
- It’s a novel idea according to Jaden, but communicators need content before being able to write
- Nina dove into Reddit, it’s certainly worth a read
- Rozelle on the 9 words that saved her pitches from dying in PR review hell

That’s it for this week’s takes, thanks for reading.
