This Week in PR Takes - Week 11
Week 11

Take of the Week and Take of the Week:
The Chuckle of the Week is back and it’s a White Lotus reference! Kamara Turner’s succinct post says it all when we’re asked to “just distribute a press release.” This one hit me so hard that it’ll double up as the Take of the Week, too. Not only is it on point and pretty flipping funny, it also opens the door for a legit question - why do non-Comms people rely on the press release like a crutch?
There are a variety of different ways to inform journalists of upcoming news, whether it be a blog post, social media posts, an executive/spokesperson traveling, or just the pitch itself. Granted, publicly traded companies have to issue press releases for certain pieces of news and earnings, but it’s up to us to ask more qualifying questions to determine if a press release is the right vehicle to distribute news. Such as, who are we trying to reach? What does success look like? And others.
But in the meantime, spot on Kamara!
A word from Dazzle:
Don’t forget that the folks at Dazzle, the AI search agent that matches PR teams’ stories with the right journalists in real time, have a special offer for the TWiPRT community. No lie, I’ve tried it a few times this week in my own research and it is super fast and efficient.
You can get a free month if you sign up for a month of their Professional Plan (valued at $250) and use the promo code PRTAKES2025. I’ve heard of some small hiccups at the sign in, here is a link to Dazzle’s promo code manual to help with any questions.
*Disclosure, I receive compensation if you decide to sign on beyond the trial
The Rest of the Takes:
Dustin Siggins published a “Comms Guide on Speaking with the C-Suite” and it’s pretty sweet!
The perennially posting Parry Headrick had a strong take on whether or not companies should announce news at big events. Spoiler alert: no. My take: I totally agree, and I would add that you’re better off announcing pre-event - unless you’re Apple or Ford, or announcing something “actually” unique.
I cannot say that I 100% agree with Andrew Graham’s take on what makes something newsworthy, but it’s a unique take about anger for sure.
On the flip side, Lizzy Harris’ point about one month of PR and going to the gym is spot on.
Christina Berger jotted down some excellent points on reactive vs. proactive PR, and how to bake in time for both.
Ashley Mann with a take on simple pitches and the results they earn.
Kat Eller Murray with a take on building a strategic foundation in communications.
Ashley Mayer changed her tune on crisis and internal comms, and how they should consider overaction and focus, respectively.
Danny Groner with a deep read/take on in-house PR people.
Don’t forget to check out Dazzle.ai if you’re looking for a fast and easy way to find new journalists for a campaign. You can get free access for a month to their Professional plan using promo code: PRTAKES2025.
That’s it for this week’s takes, thanks for reading.
